This year’s International Day of Print is set for Thursday, October 9, 2025, and the team at Young People in Print (YPIP) invites printers across the UK to throw open their doors to schools, colleges, and young people, offering enriching print experiences and showcasing the creativity, technology, and sustainability powering today's print industry.
Why October 9, 2025, Matters
Celebrated globally, this year’s theme, #PrintSmart, highlights the fusion of technology, teamwork, and creativity that defines modern print - from data-driven workflows and AI-driven automation to personalisation at scale and eco-conscious practices.
YPIP: Empowering the Next Generation of Print Professionals
YPIP is spearheading the UK celebration of International Day of Print by encouraging printers and suppliers to host open days for students across the country. These events are designed to demystify the print industry, offering firsthand experience with cutting-edge equipment, sustainable processes, and varied career paths.
Since 2024, YPIP has urged companies to open their facilities on a national scale - not just local events but broad, coordinated experiences aimed at inspiring young talent. It supports participating businesses by linking them to local career hubs, coordinating school and college visits, and providing ready-to-use agendas and presentation materials to streamline the day’s flow.
Apprenticeship pathways are also on the radar. YPIP is working with UCAS and Ozzle to promote print industry roles. In other words, it’s not just an open day - it’s a bridge between education and opportunity.
What’s Happening Near You: A Snapshot of Possibilities
Though specific local listings aren’t available yet (locations are still being confirmed nationwide), here’s how your region or institution can get involved:
Printers & Suppliers – Register with YPIP to host a school visit – it doesn’t have to be on October 9. We have to work to the school’s curriculum. Receive an agenda template, tour materials, and local liaison support. Provide students with talk sessions, hands-on demos, and optional refreshments. Alternatively, offer your local school to do a talk on print or packaging – you go to them instead of them coming to you, if that’s easier.
Schools & Colleges – Contact your local print businesses or use your regional career hub to book visits. Explore print technology, sustainable materials, and discover apprenticeship routes.
Print Enthusiasts & Local Media – Promote events near you via social media using #PrintSmart and #InternationalDayOfPrint, and share success stories to inspire others.
Final Thoughts
International Day of Print (October 9, 2025) isn’t just a celebration - it’s a hands-on invitation to explore the power of print and its future. Thanks to YPIP, young people across the UK will have the chance to step inside the industry and see how innovation, sustainability, and creativity come together in print.
Let’s amplify print’s promise - one open door, one curious mind, one print experience at a time.

I explored the Magical section on TypeType recently — these are the kind of fonts you pick when you want things to feel whimsical, dreamlike, or enchanting. I used magically font in a poster for a kids’ event and got compliments on how the lettering looked like something out of a fantasy book. The site offers trial downloads so you can test them first, which I found really helpful before committing. If you’re doing branding or creative projects with character, Magical is a fun direction.
